2023 Cadillac CT8 Rumor

The Cadillac CT6 was dropped in the US after 2020 but is still for sale in China, and sightings of a new prototype indicate that a redesigned version is now on the way. Cadillac engineers have been spotted testing a new full-size sedan believed to be the successor to the CT6. The prototype has been seen testing on US soil, but the final production version is unlikely to be offered outside of China, where the sedan is still sold in large numbers.

The new sedan looks similar in size to the 205.8-inch CT6. But instead of the traditional CT6 styling, this new sedan adopts a curved fastback design.

This new sedan is GM’s VSS-R rear-wheel drive platform. This platform is a member of the VSS (Vehicle Strategies Group) family of platforms designed for internal combustion vehicles, and replaces the Omega CT6 platform and Alpha II platform for the smaller CT4 and CT5 sedans.

Completing the VSS range is the VSS-F platform designed for small and compact front-wheel drive vehicles, the VSS-S platform for small and medium-sized front-wheel drive vehicles, and the VSS-T platform for chassis on frame vehicles.

The CT6 is offered in China with a choice of a 2.0-liter inline-4 or 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine, or a plug-in hybrid setup using the inline-4 as the internal combustion component. Expect the new sedan to arrive with similar powertrain offerings.

But what about the electric car from Cadillac? The automaker plans one, including one for the United States. It’ll be called Celestiq and ride on GM’s Ultium EV platform. This will be a very exclusive model Cadillac has hinted that will sell for a six-figure price tag. It is scheduled to debut later this year.
