2022 Rivian R1S Electric SUV, R1T Full Review
Rivian is a manufacturer of new cars. Although no vehicle is in production, it shows a lot of potential. Some of the biggest brands are investing in developing two available concepts: the electric SUV and the truck. According to rumors, production of the 2022 Rivian R1S could start soon.
The company teases enthusiasts from time to time. Final rendering shows the R1S SUV in white paint. We also received the inside spec numbers and photos. This is enough to make first impressions of the upcoming SUV.
2022 Rivian R1S 750hp drivetrain delivers at 400 miles per cost
Like its R1T sibling, the 2022 Rivian R1S will implement AWD. There are three battery options: 105 kWh, 135 kWh and 180 kWh. Interestingly, the Rivian will be launching the 135 kWh and 180 kWh models in the first place. Shortly thereafter, a 105 kWh version will also go on sale. The all-electric SUV uses four engines / generators and delivers up to 400 miles per charge.
The ride quality is impressive, according to the Michigan-based manufacturer. Rivian recently made some bold claims. The latter says the R1S SUV will produce 750 hp and 829 lb-ft of torque. In addition, this model can reach 0-100 km / h in just three seconds. The R1S will be able to tow nearly 8,000 lbs.
2022 Rivian R1S Pioneering access
Three different battery packs announced for the 2022 Rivian R1S – 105 kWh, 135 kWh and 180 kWh. However, the company has not released its specifications and ranges. Experts believe best-in-class numbers will reach 410 miles with the largest engine. On the other hand, the R1S will deliver at least 250 miles with the entry-level package. Tesla is currently a leader in this segment, but its Model X will need a boost to compete with the Rivian Electric SUV.
In comparison, the R1T electric van uses the same batteries. There, the highest range is 400 miles, but the engine produces 520 horsepower, which is 230 horsepower less than the other two configurations. However, it allows for a greater range. The mid-range battery will return 300 miles.
2022 Rivian R1S Spacious interior design
The new SUV can accommodate five or seven people. This means that on some configurations, the R1S will have three rows of seats. The concept has a futuristic interior, but we don’t think it will look the same when an SUV goes into production.
2022 Rivian R1s Vs Lincoln Aviator Electric Suv
The Lincoln Aviator recently got a major update. It became a powerful hybrid, which could soon turn into an all-electric model. The 2022 Rivian R1S platform will support the upcoming SUVs. Well, it’s no surprise to learn that Blue Oval has invested $ 500 million in Rivian stock. Additionally, billions of dollars have been spent on electricity, giving rise to the latest all-electric SUV Mach E.
The all-new 2022 Rivian R1S is the company’s latest model. Interestingly, we’re still waiting for the Rivian to release its first-ever model. This model should be the R1T electric van. Soon after, the R1S SUV will follow the same path and see daylight. The electric SUV runs on a so-called “skateboard” platform and provides an electrical range of approximately 400 miles.
In addition, the R1S delivers impressive acceleration thanks to the 750hp powertrain. In addition, the Rivian promises a Tier 3 autonomous driving capability. The cabin can accommodate five or seven passengers. When it comes to the exterior, we’re not surprised by the sleek design and sporty look.
2022 Rivian R1S looks traditional and unique
The newly approached 2022 Rivian R1S looks very powerful. The electric SUV comes with a conventional block-like appearance and measures 200.7 inches in length. In comparison, this is a few inches shorter than a Chevrolet Tahoe. Some parts look very traditional and old fashioned. On the other hand, the cartoonish front cover is quite another.
The oval headlights are oriented vertically and the long light bar acts as an indicator for charging and daylight. You can buy the R1S with its proprietary formula that provides 14.3 inches of ground clearance. This ride height is greater than what the Ford Raptor offers.
2022 Rivian R1S Interior features
The upcoming SUV offers two internal configurations. In the standard edition, the 2022 Rivian R1S is a two-row model and can seat five passengers. Optionally, you can load the third row of seats and convert the R1S into a 7-passenger SUV. You will have to do some math as the 180 kWh battery only comes with the two-row version. The 2022 R1S will share many components with the R1T pickup. Includes the same screens, dashboard, infotainment system, and more.
The dashboard is slightly different and looks as simple as that of Tesla’s. Another interesting nod is the Mercedes-like gear lever. You don’t have to worry about luxury in the cabin. Rivian offers a number of gentle touches, premium materials and a high level of comfort. Finally, Rivian said the R1S SUV will arrive with a Tier 3 self-driving capability.
2022 Rivian R1S price and release date
In terms of pricing, the all-new2022 Rivian R1S won’t be cheap at all. The price starts at 72,500 dollars. The Michigan-based company said production will begin in the second half of 2020. As for competitors, the R1S will compete with the Tesla Model X, Audi e-Tron and Jaguar I-Pace.

2022 Rivian R1T
Rivian has announced pricing for the 2022 Rivian R1T Electric Pickup and R1S electric SUV, both of which will arrive in the summer of 2021.
The first releases that will arrive are the launch releases. The 2022 Rivian R1T Launch Edition starts at $ 75,000 and the R1S Launch Edition starts at $ 77,500. The launch versions are priced slightly higher than the standard ones, with the R1T starting at $ 67,500 and the R1S at $ 70,000.
Launch versions come with a “big pack,” a mid-range 135 kWh battery pack, which will provide a range of over 300 miles. Both cars can also accelerate from 0-100 km / h in 3.0 seconds. Launch Edition models also get front intake rails, air compressor, ash wood trim, and heated and ventilated front seats. 20 or 22 inch wheels are also available.
In January 2022, Rivian will launch Adventure and Explore versions of the R1T and R1S.
The 2022 Rivian R1T’s extended range is set to reach a range of more than 400 miles in January 2022, but Rivian has not announced a date for the arrival of the longer R1S or the 250-mile-range versions of the R1 S and R1T.
2022 Rivian R1T performance
To compete in the modern truck segment, a pickup truck must be able to carry a lot of weight. To prove that the upcoming show was as capable as anything from The Detroit Three, Rivian took her R1T electric truck out into the desert to test it.
But not just any flat desert; It brought the 2022 Rivian R1T to the Davis Dam Grade, an extension of the road used by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) to establish uniform Qatar rankings.
It’s a steep climb, with the road up 2,950 feet for 11 miles, and it’s a tough test for any vehicle.
The Rivian was able to haul an 11,000-pound payload up the incline, at temperatures up to 118 ° F (48 ° C) and above 40 mph (65 km / h) depending on the brand; SAE only requires testing to be performed at an ambient temperature of 38 ° C and a top speed of 40 mph.
As you’d expect, pulling that weight off has a cost. Rivian says the range of the R1T will decrease by about 50 percent at towing at full capacity, allowing it to travel only 200 miles (321 km) instead of the 400 (643 km) maximum.
To combat the low range, Rivian plans to introduce additional battery packs placed under a false floor in the bed, and make up for it by building fast DC charging stations.
Expect the 2022 Rivian R1T to arrive sometime in the summer of 2021.
