The 1.6-liter KIA four-cylinder turbo is always great, even if the sound really does. It’s an elaborate machine, an ambiance that shows a lot of pausing delay for new shows. The seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (the only option for the turbocharger Soul) runs slowly, and despite having two clutches, the slow-speed gearbox makes it look like a traditional automatic transmission.
But this transmission star is compared to a very sensitive throttle. It takes a lot of focus to apply the required amount of acceleration. Most of the time, however, the right pedal reacts as if the soul is a living being that has just been sealed, is frightened and conferred a lot of power.
At the same time, maintaining a steady low speed, say five miles per hour in bumper-to-bumper traffic, requires a great deal of focus.
The focus is nicely placed on though, due to the smooth, steady acceleration the Soul maintains with its smooth arc-and-tone suspension. Sitting in traffic in a Kia at the end of my wits as the car continued to move with all grace and serenity of the Pontoon boat in the storm.
I could forgive the amount of body movement if the ride was a comfortable soul at speed, but the truth is that the overall comfort of this car is average.
