2022 Acura MDX, Type S the Reviews
There are only four days left until the full reveal of the flagship 2022 Acura MDX. According to Acura, the new model will be presented on Tuesday, December 8th. The manufacturer showed off the MDX in a prototype a few days ago, and we have to admit that it looks significantly different from the previous model.
The new model will be taller, lower and wider than its predecessor. It also provides a more elegant and sophisticated look. As Acura revealed that the new 2022 Acura MDX will be available with a 3.5-liter V6 making roughly 290 horsepower after the base MDX hits the market, fans can also expect a warmer S Type, powered by the same 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 as the TLX Type S.
2022 Acura MDX Exterior changes
The upcoming 2022 Acura MDX flagship looks almost identical to the prototype we saw recently. In general, the new model has been updated compared to the previous one and has a well-shaped interface. Acura claims that the new generation will bring many improvements. In addition, it is longer, lower and wider than its predecessor.
Overall, the design is one of the best we’ve seen in the mid-range. This time around, the front is dominated by a grille, hood and slimmer headlights. At the rear, the same story continues with the visually better taillights and new exhaust system, resulting in a sportier appearance than before.
2022 Acura MDX Cab including new 12.3-inch center display
Like the previous model, the new 2022 Acura MDX offers seating for seven with three rows of seats. In general, the cabin will be much better, and it will be a huge leap in terms of quality materials and design, compared to the previous model. However, this is not all because from what we have heard, the manufacturer will also introduce some new technologies.
The cabin will finally house a digital instrument panel, as well as a large 12.3-inch center screen. Acura also claims that its True Touchpad interface should lead the way in the latest infotainment system. Security will be better and buyers can expect a large number of standard features.
2022 Acura MDX Powertrain Specifications
The latest news reveals that the 2022 Acura MDX will be available in two variants, the base and the S-type. The base model will use a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 290 horsepower. This powertrain will likely come standard with a 10-speed automatic transmission, while Acura’s premium all-wheel drive system will be optional. The hottest Type S variant will be available shortly after the release of the base version. A 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 will power this model and should pump out somewhere around 355 horsepower. Additionally, the Type S model comes with SH-AWD technology as standard.
2022 Acura MDX Release date and price
The new 2022 Acura MDX will be available in four days, or exactly on Tuesday, December 8th. In addition to a better exterior and sharper lines, the new SUV will also have a more modern interior. We don’t have official pricing details, but several experts suggest that a price around $50,000 should be more than acceptable.
2022 Acura MDX Type S
The next-generation Acura is getting the popular Type S performance treatment. However, the release date of the new 2022 Acura MDX Type S three-row crossover is set to be next year due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
As you probably know, if you like Acura models, the Type S was spotted for testing in early 2019. Until then, we haven’t heard any news about a release date. Overall, we’ve gathered some information and the Type S will deploy a modified 3.5-liter hybrid powertrain that can be connected to three electric motors.
2022 Acura MDX S Type Design
The highly anticipated 2022 Acura MDX Type S is finally available. As mentioned, this model was spied wearing a fully camouflaged outfit. At first glance, the ratio of this model is the same as that of the regular model. Generally, both models ride on the same platform and share the same design. However, the S-Type will bring something new and we can definitely say sporty design.
For starters, the test mule shows its net and nothing else. Also, as we can see, the manufacturer used the same design language as RDX. The Acura’s diamond five-point grille is still present, surrounded by LED headlights and vertical air intakes. Fans and buyers can certainly expect a more aggressive design thanks to the many darker accents.
2022 Acura MDX Type S Interior Improvement
The upcoming 2022 Acura MDX Type S will be sporty and modern on the inside. Unfortunately, the manufacturer has not disclosed any information about the cabin. Of course we can expect a more luxurious cabin than the regular one. Also, the Type S can offer many technical improvements.
Acura’s goal is to create a sportier, more competitive design, followed by more comfort. From what we’ve heard, we’re expecting a unique trim with contrast stitching and a new touchscreen system. In addition, the manufacturer will offer more standard safety tools.
2022 Acura MDX Type S safety
AcuraWatch’s suite of standard active safety and driver assistance systems will be even richer than before. The standard package includes Forward Collision Warning with Independent Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Automatic High Beam and Lane Departure Warning.

According to many speculations, the 2022 Acura MDX Type S will be powered by a hybrid powertrain. The new Type S can use a modified 3.5-liter powertrain that can be connected to three electric motors. This combination allows this model to produce 400 horsepower.
If you didn’t already know, the regular MDX is available with either a 3.5L V6 or 3.0L in the Sport Hybrid model. Additionally, we can also expect Acura’s Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) and torque vectoring system. Both systems are available in the current MDX and TLX Type S.

Leaked information shows that the 2022 Acura Type S will arrive next year’s 2020YM. There is also a lot of speculation about the upcoming RDX Type S which is clearly on the way.
In addition, both models should bring more improvements than the regular models. Pricing isn’t available yet, but we’ve heard that the Acura MDX Type S will likely start at $60,000.
